SMI maintains an active program on quality including utilizing Advance Product Quality Planning, Control Plans, DFMEAs, PFMEAs, Process Capability Monitoring, SPC, and Measurement System Analysis. Further SMI maintains key suppliers under a Supplier Management System to assure the highest quality of materials entering the SMI product chain.

Currently, SMI is shipping product to a number of automotive customers with an ongoing program of continuous improvement towards the objective of zero defects. Applications include manifold air pressure (MAP), braking assistance, tire pressure monitoring systems (TPMS) and exhaust gas recirculation (EGR). In the drive to achieve zero defects, SMI has implemented a computerized Manufacturing Execution System (MES) to track material, equipment, and processes. In addition, SMI has active programs of monitoring processes and electrical test using Statistical Bin Analysis (SBA). It also has implemented and is expanding the application of Parts Average Testing (PAT) to find and eliminate parts that are statistically abnormal.
